Corporate Counselling

With the advent and very rapid growth of multinationalism and globalization, questions of ethics in the corporate world have become extremely important. There is an increasing need for corporate philosophers to assist government agencies, corporations, or professional organizations in which success hinges upon human performance and motivation. Corporate philosophical consultants can counsel individual employees to resolve problems that interfere with work performance, facilitate workshops to enhance performance and consult with the management boards to improve corporate ethics. A philosophical consultant can form mission statements or codes of ethics for organizations as well as design training workshops such as dilemma training, integrity training, and short Socratic Dialogues*. The corporate philosopher can improve the harmony of the workplace, and help create a positive public image that an ethically sound foundation provides. Good ethics make for good business.

* Socratic Dialogue is a formalized method developed by Leonard Nelson, a German philosopher, in which a group of five to ten participants uses personal experience as a bases for finding a universal definition for a particular concept (such as justice, honesty, liberty) that is both explicit and accurate.
